Understanding Iridology

Iridology is the science and practice that reveals inflammation, where it’s located and in what stage it is manifesting. The iris reveals body constitution, inherent weaknesses, levels of health and the transitions that take place in a person/s body according to the way he/she lives.

Iridology is the science of analyzing the delicate structures of the iris of the eye. The iris is the portion of the eye that carries the color. Iris was the goddess of the rainbow in Greek Mythology; she was also messenger of the gods in the Iliad. Under magnification, the iris reveals itself to be a world of minute detail, a land of many features.

The iris represents a communication system capable of handling an amazing quantity of information.

The eyes have been proclaimed throughout the ages as the window of the soul We now acknowledge them as the mirror of the body. Manifestations in and about the eyes have long been used to gain insight into a person’s state of health.

In the early 1800’s a young boy named Ignatzvon Peczely of Egervar near Budapest Hungary caught an owl in his garden. As the young 11 year old boy and the owl began to have a scuffle the owls and the boy started into each other’s eyes. The scuffle led to the owl having a broken leg and the boy was able to watch a black line draw into the owl’s eye. The boy bandaged the owl’s leg and kept him in his garden. As the owls leg healed he was able to see a crooked white line develop where the black had originally appeared.

When von Peczely grew up he became a physician and never forgot the incident with the owl. He was able to follow his curiosities into his medical practice and observe the changes in patients eyes when injury or illness occurred. Iridology has progressed tremendously since the 1800’s.

The iris is connected to every organ and tissue of the body by way of the brain and nervous system. The nerve fibers receive their impulses by way of their connection to the optic nerve, optic thalami and spinal cord. They are formed embryologically from mesoderm and neuroectoderm tissues. Both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are present in the iris.

Nerve fibers in the iris respond to changes in body tissues by manifesting a reflex physiology that corresponds to specific tissue changes and locations.
